Woman Sentenced For West Chester DUI Crash

“You left me without parents, my children without grandparents, and my nieces and nephews without great-grandparents,” said Alejandro Rabel-Gutierrez. He was one of the children of a couple that was killed in a car crash earlier this year.

Jennifer Lynn DiCecco was sentenced to serve 6.5 to 13 years in state prison on two counts of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. In February, she was driving at a high rate of speed, up to 97 miles per hour, right before she slammed into a vehicle when she crossed into oncoming traffic. On the scene, officers noticed an odour of alcohol on her breath and saw open containers in her vehicle.

The Harsh Reality

When it comes to drunk driving in Pennsylvania, we see a pretty steady trend year after year. For the latest reporting year, there were 10,346 injuries and 293 fatalities due to alcohol-related crashes.

  • 26% of all traffic fatalities were alcohol-related.

Why are drunk driving accidents so bad?

  • Those who operate under the influence of alcohol are not likely to slow down before an impact.
  • They are often travelling at high rates of speed.

We commonly see severe injuries as a result of drunk driving accidents, more so than in other crashes. Consider the following:

Most of those injuries are not the kind where you can simply go to the ER and leave the same day. They require extensive medical care and often long-term rehabilitation. Do you know if your insurance will cover all of those expenses?

Many people do not think about the hidden costs of vehicle accidents:

  • Lost wages and benefits of the victim
  • Accommodations for ease of mobility to homes or vehicles
  • Emotional and psychological care for the accident victim
