When Camden County resident, Natalie Diaz, could not find a parking space while stopping at a convenience store for coffee, she decided to park her car near the parking lot exit while she bought a hot drink. Shortly afterward, a police officer aggressively demanded that she move her car before a second officer released a dog to attack her, causing lacerations to her leg. In a federal lawsuit which has now been brought by Diaz, her lawyer states that the police officers in question used excessive force, and ordered the dog to attack without justification, given that Diaz was sitting in her vehicle with the door open at the time.
No comment has been made by the accused police officers, who have cited the ongoing lawsuit as their reason for not speaking out, although a separate lawsuit saw Diaz pleading guilty to eluding police and attempting to injure a law enforcement animal. Sentencing, in this case, is due to be made on May 25.
