Today, we want to discuss a recent DUI crash that took the life of a mother with a four-year-old child.
We are learning that a Norristown woman has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a recent fatal crash. Courtney Rachel Clinton was out celebrating her birthday, police say, when she caused a two-vehicle crash on the Dannehower Bridge.
Police say that the incident happened in the early morning hours of August 4, Clinton was traveling Northbound on Route 202. Another woman, Lakiesha Richet, was riding a motorcycle and was also traveling northbound and was struck from the rear by Clinton’s vehicle.
“The front of the Clinton vehicle struck the rear tire area of the Richet vehicle,” said police. When first responders arrived, they found Richet trapped under the front of Clinton’s vehicle. Police say they detected a strong odor of alcohol on Clinton and observed other signs of impairment. They conducted field sobriety tests and she consented to a blood test.
Clinton has been charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle, DUI, reckless driving, careless driving, and speeding in connection with the death.
Richet’s cause of death was “mechanical asphyxia with contributing core injury as a result of the crash.”

There were 293 alcohol-related traffic fatalities, which accounted for 26% of all traffic deaths that year.
